ALL ACCESS: NATALIE'S ANGLE02—14—13
As Senior Fashion Editor of Elle UK, Natalie Wansbrough-Jones knows her way around New York Fashion Week. We caught up with her just before she crossed the pond to NYC for a slew of shows, power lunches and late-night parties. Read on for her Fashion Week survival kit—vitamins, sunglasses—and a few Manhattan must-dos.
Where do you like to stay when you’re in NYC?
In the past, I’ve stayed in the Meatpacking District. It’s the area I know the best and all of my New York friends are nearby. My favorite hotel there is The Maritime—although I’ve been told it’s haunted! I also recently spent a few nights uptown in The Lowell Hotel and loved being around the corner from Barneys and close to Central Park. It was so calm and peaceful compared to the rest of the city.
What’s your favorite Michael Kors piece in your closet?
A leopard print kaftan from the Spring 2012 collection.
Describe it in three words.
Chic, functional, summertime.
What are your handbag essentials for NYFW?
Vitamins to keep me going, a few pairs of sunglasses to hide tired eyes, my phone charger, a notepad and pencil.
What’s your favorite thing about a Michael Kors show?
I think the Michael Kors woman is someone that everyone aspires to—she’s the quintessential all-American girl. And while you always get a sense of that girl in each show, I love seeing the different vision each season. It’s a fresh perspective that makes you fall in love all over again.
Where will you head for lunch after the show?
Lunch is normally on the go. For something fast, I head to Whole Foods. If I have some extra time, I go to Lovely Day, a funny little organic café in NoLita.
One of the many amazing sushi bars. My all-time favorites are Matsuri and Hiro Ballroom underneath the Maritime hotel (both sadly now closed).
What do you never miss when in NYC (time permitting!)?
Spending time with one of my best friends who lives in the city.
Do you have any special plans for Valentine’s Day?
You will have to ask my husband!
