WHAT: Over 700 philanthropists, politicians and notable fashion influencers gathered at the God’s Love We Deliver Seventh Annual Golden Heart Awards dinner. Bette Midler took to the podium to welcome guests to the gala. A highlight of the evening was when Michael Kors and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour presented former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton with the first-ever Michael Kors Award for Outstanding Community Service.
Upon receiving the award, Clinton held the red heart-shaped accolade over her heart and exclaimed, “I love it!” before going on to speak about the importance of giving in a time of economic uncertainty: “This program, what it represents, the connections that it forges, the kindness, the efficiency and the results that it stands for, are so much a part of the American character.”
Iman presented the Golden Heart Award for Lifetime Achievement to Aerin Lauder, Founder and Creative Director of AERIN and Style and Image Director of Estée Lauder. Karen Pearl also presented Jeff Gates and Mike Moran, long-time volunteers and donors, with the Golden Heart Award for Outstanding Volunteerism.
The gala raised $3 million for the non-profit, which more than doubled the funds raised the previous year. In fact, the dinner was the most successful event in the 28-year-old organization’s history. Founded in 1985 to ensure that no person in the New York area suffers the dual crises of hunger and life-altering illness, God’s Love We Deliver cooks 4,600 meals each weekday.
