Michael Kors & Andrea Blanch, 199107—16—12
This photo was taken for a fall preview story for W magazine. The fabulous woman I’m with is fashion photographer Andrea Blanch, who worked like crazy in the ‘80s and ‘90s. She’s holding her camera because she was shooting me while the two of us were being shot. Women like Andrea have always been muses for me—women who are busy, glamorous, always on the go. Look at her gold leather trench; 20 years later it’s still something you could throw on over an evening dress or jeans and look great. (And I, of course, was wearing aviator sunglasses—even back then!)
The shoot was in Chelsea (when Chelsea was a dangerous neighborhood) at Sixth Avenue and 24th Street. Can you believe how much sky you can see? Most of the buildings were still low-rises. Boy, New York has changed a lot since then. But the Michael Kors woman—stylish even on her busiest days—is still exactly the same.
