What’s your favorite thing about being a mother?
I love the serenity and wisdom that comes with being a mother. It’s forced me to live in the present and has helped me gain a deeper understanding of how precious life is—how remarkable it is to love so deeply.
Has motherhood changed your style?
I’ve tried to amp up my style since becoming a mom. I feel like I’m truly coming into my own.
What’s your everyday uniform?
Jeans, a tee, a sweater or blazer, Converse All Stars, jewelry and a trench coat.
Any quick beauty tips when you’re in a rush?
A swipe of mascara and some lip gloss always seem to do the trick. If all else fails, messy hair tends to distract people from a sleep-deprived face.
What’s your favorite part of the day with your children?
The first hours of the morning and the last hours of the day.
What’s the toughest part of being a mother?
Worrying about if you’re doing everything right—there are no do-over’s!
Has anything surprised you about motherhood?
Every single day is a surprise.
Are you the kind of mother you thought you’d be before having kids?
I never really thought about it…
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Red wine. Chocolate. Nutella…
Looking back on your childhood, what’s one of your favorite memories of your mother?
I have distinct memories of watching my mom get ready for the day or for a night out. I can still recognize her perfume anywhere.
What was her style like?
My mom’s style has always been effortless. She doesn’t wear much makeup, or spend more than five minutes in the bathroom getting ready each morning, yet always manages to look beautiful.
Has her fashion sense influenced your own?
Totally. I’m often drawn to simple, no-fuss wardrobe items, especially for day. And wearing anything more than minimal makeup always feels weird to me—both of these traits I can trace back directly to my mom.
What’s one thing your mother did that you’re especially grateful for?
I am so thankful that my mom read to me every night as a child.
What’s the best advice she ever gave you?
My mom leads by example. She’s hardworking, easygoing and never complains. I’m amazed at how she accepts everything life has to throw at her, both the good and the bad. She advises me through her own actions to not take life too seriously—and to love unconditionally.
What’s the single most important thing you hope to pass on to your children?
I hope they know that I have unconditional love for them.
Mother’s Day is around the corner—what’s on your wish list?
To spend the whole day with my husband and son, doing whatever we feel like!
